John Paul Villena enjoys learning more than working. Taking into account that the future needs to be worked on, he found a perfect balance that would make him do both through Journalism. Currently studying the program at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, this Filipino-born and raised Canadian is enjoying life and grabbing opportunities in the Great White North.

Outside school, Paul lives a moderately active life. He is heavily influenced by friends and family to play basketball as well as occasionally engaging in other physical activities. Doing such activities are fitting to compliment the usually cold prairies. He and his friends also do jam sessions and other common things that friends enjoy.

When it comes to music, he found interest in playing drums. It was a result of a childhood dream and being able to afford one now. He plays whenever he has a free time, wants to learn a new song, or to let out steam from rather demanding tasks.

Since entering the Journalism program, he also developed his skills in photography which he has also delved deeper into. It made him appreciate the beauty and little details in his surrounding even more.

For the past couple of months, Paul has learned and experienced a lot from working on the program. Knowing that it is just the start just makes him more excited, albeit challenged as well. This just proves that he found the perfect balance between learning and working.
